Dr. Elaine DiMasi, Physicist, Brookhaven National Laboratory
Dr. DiMasi studies biological mineralization and crystal growth at the organic interface. Synchrotron x-ray scattering, including time resolved and in-situ measurements of mineralization, clarifies the importance of the molecular template for biominerals and gives unique access to submicron structures. To further advance the field of materials design and growth at interfaces, DiMasi is developing the Soft Matter Interfaces beamline in the NEXT Project for NSLS-II. This dual focus on science and instrumentation enables the confluence of cutting edge ideas to bring about new discoveries in a broader field than could otherwise be accomplished by a single research group.
